Learning about your motivations

What motivates you?

Why do you get up in the morning?

When you go to bed at night, what are you looking forward to the next day? When was the last time you looked forward to something? What was it? Would you look forward to it if it were to happen again?

Our feelings and beliefs lead to action.

If you feel like you’re incapable of doing something, you’re unlikely to do it. On the other hand, if you don’t question your ability, it’s likely you’ll follow through.

The question to answer is, are you intrinsically or extrinsically motivated?

Intrinsic motivation: motivated to do an activity for its own sake and personal rewards.

Extrinsic motivation: motivated to perform an activity to earn a reward or avoid punishment.

Start by thinking back to the decisions you made and be brutally honest about why you made them. It’ll help you understand what motivates you. Once you’re aware, use it to form better habits that lead to progress towards a goal.
