Taste limits

If you ask someone who’s only ever eaten apples:

What’s your favorite fruit?

It’s likely they’ll say—apples.

What happens when you show them mangoes for the first time?

They may either like it more than apples or reject it altogether. Mangoes are outside of their taste limit. It has flavors and textures that the person isn’t accustomed to.

A question I liked to ask myself is, what’s outside of my taste limit?

How do I expand them?

I’ve found new environments and people to be the fastest way. Tastes are formed by spending time in unique environments. Additionally, few people have similar experiences despite being in the same environment. For example, many twins grow up to be independently unique individuals.

By spending time with people who have different tastes I’m able to expand my limits. Everyone’s interesting if you dig deep enough.
